TO SHOE or NOT TO SHOE ??
Not all Horses need to be shod.
Please do not let anyone tell you that every horse needs to have shoes on. It could not be further from the truth. Not every horse needs shoes!!
Horseshoes are for traction, protection and, at times, therapeutic. The question to ask yourself is; “Does my horse need help in any of these areas”? If your answer is "YES" then you may need to have your horse shod. However; there are many other aspects that need to be discussed before making that decision TO SHOE OR NOT TO SHOE.
Considerations
- Hoof Health
- Frequency of exercise
- Stall & Turnout
- Geographical Environment
- Season
All of the above are very important in the decision to shoe. The Farrier can help you make that decision and guide you to the right type of shoe and shoeing/trimming schedule.
